| Take a Step Back in Time to the 1800's | |
| On a nine-acre triangle of rural land nestled between Broad Street and Elmwood Avenue in the Providence, the Grace Church Cemetery once stood as a green gateway to a thriving South Side neighborhood. Horse-drawn carriages and trolleys filled the bustling, tree-lined streets. Well appointed homes reflected the flourishing business climate. The cemetery was a urban asset that was an integral part of contemporary life for the entire neighborhood. |

Over the decades, the cemetery served not only as a distinguished resting place for, but a reflection of the growing population of the area. Over 8,000 people are interred here from all walks of life including war veterans, politicians, mill workers, religious leaders, laborers, immigrants, as well as prominent and ordinary members of Rhode Island families. Today, the once-proud cemetery has fallen into despair, a victim to vandalism and lack of funding to maintain the property. Once a place of prominence and reverence, it now stands littered and lost among the weeds and toppled grave markers. |
